A paralegal carries out a variety of tasks such as maintaining and organizing files, conducting legal research, interviewing witnesses, and drafting documents
Despite various areas of expertise, all paralegals work towards the same goal of ensuring that all legal research, billing, and interviews are completed accurately and efficiently.
In legal affairs, it is important that all administrative and research tasks are completed quickly and correctly. Without paralegals, lawyers would fall short in many aspects of the law.

Specialized areas of the law

Just like attorneys, paralegals often specialize in specific areas of the law.

For example, a real estate paralegal may find work with private law firms, corporations, banks, real estate agencies and title companies. They may represent buyers or sellers, any they may work with properties for sale, lease, or rent.

If a paralegal works in corporate law, he or she most likely works for the in-house legal team for a large corporation such as Microsoft or IBM. They form, maintain, and dissolve different types of mergers and acquisitions.

Family law paralegals typically work for private firms or government agencies that deal with domestic partnerships, children, and marriages. Content of work can include prenuptuial agreements, divorce, adoption, paternity, child custody, child welfare, and domestic violence.
